Are there neurological / physiological references that inform or validate N.O.W.?
I don’t have clinical studies of N.O.W., but many clinical studies point to the proven efficacy of EMDR, meditation and mindfulness practices (to which N.O.W. is related). These studies offer many examples to those with analytical minds that need validation of the benefits that arise from reduced self-talk and greater stillness-of-mind.
My pending patent has 8 key concepts that I’m only just beginning to talk about. But I’m not offering N.O.W. based on its conceptual merit. I’m asking people to suspend judgment, try it, and come to their own conclusion about N.O.W.’s efficacy in their own lives.
Patent Pending Concepts in N.O.W. Are Just Signposts
The patent-pending concepts are merely the means by which I’ve invented a product that can deliver it’s teachings. N.O.W.’s conceptual underpinnings are not the experience—they are enabling “pointers” to the experience.
I can say this … transcending the drama of the problem-creating egoic mind (exemplified by incessant past or future-focused thinking) leads to remarkable life transformations. It happened to me. Big time.
And this has happened to many others when they reached a point when their suffering became so great they encountered a non-material teaching from the “universal curriculum” that spoke to them clearly and compellingly, and then changed their lives.
N.O.W. is a teacher. It uses non-symbolic, non-conceptual, non-material, non-dualistic, non-idiomatic, pure tonal relationships to teach. N.O.W. is not a physical product, though it appears, to the eye, to be one.
For example, Eckart Tolle has sold something like 9 million books (The Power of Now and The New Earth) not because what he teaches is quantifiable. Yet he has changed millions of lives for the better through his teachings and his teachings continue to propagate themselves because they are effective at changing lives.
It is best not to get too hung up with what N.O.W. appears to be (and how it could be measured), but rather be nonjudgmental and open to resonate to what it teaches. If N.O.W. is not for you, yet, no problem. Don’t listen to it, just keep up the running self talk and monkey jump from branch to branch ; )
N.O.W. Begins to Teach
But before too long, I will be hosting some info sessions / gatherings / demonstrations at my workshop in Hyannis on Cape Cod where I’ll be talking about the metaphysical aspects of N.O.W:
- The power of C256 (A432) tuning and how it arises from the concept of Oneness.
- The power of Unison, Octave and Perfect Fifth intervals to actually convey the experiences of “separate-but-One” (Unison), infinite timelesness (Octave) and “right relationship” (Perfect 5th).
- I’ll be talking about the power of precise mathematical intonations of 1:1, 2:1, and 3:2 as opposed to the chaotic travesty that is equal temperament intonation.
- I’ll be talking about “embedded stillness”, “resonant stillness” and “resounding silence”.
- I’ll be talking about cross-hemispheric brainwave integration via VLF beat frequencies and spatially moving meditative state tones.
- I’ll be talking about “new now moments” created in the moment of use and
- The power of using N.O.W. individually as well as in group settings.
Story telling, Early Adopters and Mass Cross-over Appeal
Frankly, I don’t know exactly know who the early adopters of N.O.W. are yet! But some of you are starting to appear.
I can tell you the few Buddhists I’ve met, and introduced N.O.W. to, have been surprisingly closed-minded and judgmental (two very non Buddha-like reactions). I’m not saying this would be true of all Buddhist meditation practitioners, just relaying the reaction of the few I’ve met and introduced N.O.W. to. They seem to have so much invested in their practice that they have a hard time being open to, and resonating with, a “technical” teaching solution. “No technology necessary, just sit!” says the Zen master as he strikes the student with a stick, WACK!
So while you might think that yoga people and experienced meditators would be natural “early adopters”, I’ve been seeing that they can, in fact, be early skeptics. I’d say I’m still in the early adopter discovery phase and also early in the process of writing “persona” descriptions of who our early adopters are, and what problems they want N.O.W. to solve. I suspect we will identify 2 or 3 early adopter persona types. And I have a hunch we’ll see 2 or 3 personas in each of the Millenial, Gen X and Boomer cohorts.
Why just 3 minutes?
Like many aspects of this project, N.O.W. teaches what it wants to be. N.O.W. told me it wants to be 3 minutes of coherent tone sequences followed by a period of no-tone, listening to ambient sound, length determined by the listener at that moment (oh, related … in 1990 some Japanese knot weed stalks told me they wanted to be flutes).
The 3 minute solution is a direct empirical result of my creating and listening to tone sequences. I have found several things to be true of the 3 minute duration:
It’s a compelling story and alluring proposition. Listener:
Oh, just listen for three minutes and end my problems? I could probably handle that”.
As the creator of the tone sequences … I can easily sustain 3 minutes of non-thinking activity while I am engaged in the process of creating tone sequences, in real time, by hand. So the tone sequences come from a place of still, non-thinking awareness and this awareness is embedded in the sequences.
The effect is similar to the power of the Tao Te Ching or Marcus Aurelius’s “Meditations” to profoundly affect us 2000 years after they were created—the creators of these works were deeply in touch with stillness and used words to convey that stillness.
This is another example of non-material reality (or Quantum Physics if you prefer) at work in the tone sequences. I use tone sequences as my materials instead of words. This is closer to pure wholistic experience, and is not encumbered with the dualist problem of subject / object language that cannot be escaped in verbal or text-based teachings.
N.O.W. teaches transcendence of subject / object dualism (the “separation” or “fall from Grace”) through the direct experience of integrative, holistic Oneness, through sound (with 8 key, Universal, “right relationship” aspects btw).
There is, as I call it, a “declination time to stillness”. This is the time it takes for normal higher frequency brainwave activity to be reduced in amplitude and lower frequency brainwave activity to increase in amplitude – the sort of brainwave frequency activity that correlates closely with meditative, open-awareness.
3 minute tone sequence gives ample time for even a novice to descend from high frequency self-talk chatter to low frequency stillness and a relaxation response. Once one has arrived at the lower frequency brainwave state the next most significant benefit occurs when one exits the tone sequence and brings a heightened awareness to their surrounding reality.
The 3 minute duration teaches several things quickly: stillness is possible quickly, new insights are possible quickly, and the “awareness of awareness” is portable and can be taken away from the tone sequence “product”.
N.O.W., in just 3 minutes, is quite effective at delivering these three benefits in that amount of time.
